Notes from the March 2016 Hamilton Town Council Meeting<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Jim Leach, from the Partnership for Community Development (PCD), shared\u00a0information on the many town wide initiatives taken by the group. With the help of the\u00a0PCD the Village of Hamilton\u00a0was selected to receive a $50,000 grant to complete\u00a0an\u00a0Airpark\u00a0Needs Assessment and Redevelopment Study. Future property owners will\u00a0be getting help through the PCD\u2019s home ownership center, with grants available to first\u00a0time homeowners. In February the PCD hosted an alternative energy for agriculture presentation, exploring opportunities for local farmers to participate in local, state, and\u00a0national cost-saving green energy programs. In addition, the PCD is working with local\u00a0residents on a recreation plan for the towpath to improve access and trails.<\/p>\n

The Town Council is reviewing the Comprehensive Plan, with a working meeting\u00a0scheduled for March 30. A public meeting to review the revised plan is tentatively\u00a0scheduled for early May, with another opportunity for community comment. Copies of\u00a0the Comprehensive Plan will be made available well before the May meeting, with\u00a0details announced as the date approaches.<\/p>\n

Thanks to Lydia Slater for accepting a position and filling the vacancy on The Town\u00a0Zoning Board of Appeals. We appreciate the work of our board members and their\u00a0service to our community!<\/p>\n

Work on the new Town Office, located at 38 Milford Street, is moving forward. The\u00a0Town Council voted to retain Bell and Spina, an experienced architectural firm, to assist\u00a0in the renovations. The town has been awarded two grants from New York State,\u00a0totaling 150,000 to help pay for this work.<\/p>\n

Look for our Town Highway Crew doing maintenance and repairs on Hamilton\u2019s roads. They are taking advantage of the early spring\u00a0weather as they begin work cutting back\u00a0road\u00a0shoulders throughout the town.<\/p>\n

The Hamilton Town Council meets on the second Thursday of the month at the Town of\u00a0Hamilton office at 16 Broad Street in the Village of Hamilton at 6:30 pm.
