The proposed cut of this valuable assistance for our farmers from $31 million to $14 million illustrates that our current assemblyman is more concerned with pleasing his downstate friends and getting re-elected than taking care of local family farms Upstate.

He has voted to provide for free college tuition for illegal immigrants, funding for the SAFE Act, and his votes against ethics reform eight times makes one wonder just where his priorities lie. Many are starting to wonder just who he is really working for. As the chairman of the Agricultural Committee, his silence about the proposed cuts to agriculture aid to farmers has left many of his constituents to reconsider his loyalties and call for his resignation as chair of the committee.

I want to double the amount of the current level of assistance for our family farms. With a budget slush fund this year of more than $2 billion, we surely can squeeze out extra funds to support our farms that are already suffering due to the low price of milk. We need to protect our economy and local food supply, not by accepting Albany smoke-and-mirrors proposals that favor downstate, but serious and realistic programs that will help our farmers and our small businesses.”

I am calling for the complete repeal of the SAFE Act and oppose free college tuition for illegal immigrants. We have millions of our young people struggling to pay back thousands of dollars in college loans. What are they to think when someone who is not even an American citizen gets free tuition? To me, this is a slap in the face.

Our current assemblyman is out of touch with issues like the heroin epidemic plaguing our region. Emergency medical services are reaching a critical point of not being able to provide sufficient coverage for their communities, and Mr. Magee, who is on the ad hoc EMS committee for the Assembly, has done little to find solutions. We desperately need a change from the Albany status quo.

I, John Salka, the Republican candidate for the 121st Assembly district, and am calling out Assemblyman William “Bill” Magee on his recent votes regarding ethics reform, free college education for illegal immigrants, agricultural supports and SAFE Act funding.
