"Sherburne_Art_Show,_Sherburne,_NY_JUN80-R15-12"On Saturday, June 11, the fifth annual Sherburne Arts Festival will take place at Gaines Park on East State Street, next to the Sherburne Public Library. Running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the festival will showcase the work of artists and crafters from Central New York and the Southern Tier, featuring exquisite works of art in a variety of media: photography, watercolor, oil paintings, glass work, jewelry, fiber arts, hand-made frames, woodwork, metal sculpture, gourds, hand-made soaps, and so much more.

In addition to a special exhibit featuring the work of Sherburne writer and cartoonist Randy Glasbergen (1957-2015), there will be an exhibit of artwork by Sherburne-Earlville Central School students. The work will be judged by local artist Julian Button; first, second, and third-place prizes will be awarded.

An interactive kids’ art tent will have plenty of supervised projects for children of all ages, and Master Falconer Rick West will return with his many species of wild raptors. Caricature artist Jim Coon will be making caricatures all day, free of charge, as a gift from the library to everyone who attends the festival.

Library officials are excited this year to announce that local band Rabbit in the Rye will be performing on the Gaines Park stage. Rabbit’s progressive folk rock will be a welcome addition to an already fabulous event!

Raffles and a ticket auction will be ongoing throughout the day, with dozens of gift baskets donated by local businesses and residents. All proceeds will benefit the Sherburne Public Library and the Arts Festival. The festival is a revival of the original art show begun in 1947 by local artist Mariea Brown.

All artwork is under tents in case of rain, and there will be food and drink available for purchase throughout the day. Parking is available in several village lots and on the street.
