The Oneida Rail Trail will host volunteers at Old Erie Canal State Park as part of more than 95 cleanup, improvement and beautification events happening statewide Saturday, May 7<\/span>. I Love My Park Day is an exciting statewide event to improve and enhance New York\u2019s state parks and historic sites and bring visibility to the entire state park system and its needs.<\/p>\n

Volunteers from across the state will participate in cleanup, improvement, and beautification events at New York state parks and historic sites. Volunteers will celebrate New York\u2019s state park system by cleaning up park lands and beaches, planting trees and gardens, restoring trails and wildlife habitat, removing invasive species, and working on various site improvement projects.<\/p>\n

New Yorkers love their parks. Volunteers are willing to help maintain the beauty of New York\u2019s treasured state parks and historic sites. Friends groups and volunteers are more important than ever to keep parks beautiful, clean, and welcoming for all to visit and enjoy.<\/p>\n

Three miles of the Old Erie Canal State Park adopted by the Oneida Rail Trail will be cleaned of garbage between 9 and 11 a.m<\/span>. Meet at Route 316 (Jacks or Better). Garbage bags, small tools and gloves will be provided. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water.<\/p>\n

The Oneida Rail Trail follows the path of three former railroads that traversed the city of Oneida. The enhanced non-motorized 11.3-mile multi-use trail system\u00a0interconnects and triangulates\u00a0these three former railbeds. This enhanced trail system is easily accessible from many existing neighborhood access points\u00a0and connects schools, neighborhoods, parks, and all commercial corridors, the five corners area, Genesee Street, the Erie Canal Trailway and the Oneida City Center. The project is a collaborative effort between the city of Oneida, Madison County and the Oneida Improvement Committee, Inc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
