\"nrcs\"<\/a>New York Natural Resources Conservation Service\u00a0announces June 17 as the application cutoff date for the Climate Change Mitigation Program\u00a0funded through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am excited about this\u00a0opportunity for New York\u2019s agricultural community to work with NRCS to apply conservation practices that\u00a0will directly reduce the causes of climate change. This program will bring almost $1 million to New York to\u00a0help mitigate climate change\u201d said State Conservationist Greg Kist.<\/p>\n

The Climate Change Mitigation Program funds conservation practices that benefit air quality, build soil\u00a0quality or reduce energy consumption. Some of the practices included in this program are: Combustion\u00a0System Improvement, Nutrient Management, Farmstead Energy Improvement, Cover Crops, and\u00a0Residue and Tillage Management.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether an applicant is looking to reduce their carbon footprint,\u00a0increase carbon in the soil or reduce their energy consumption, NRCS has the tools and programs that\u00a0can help. This is a great example of thinking globally and acting locally,\u201d said Kist.<\/p>\n

All applications are competitive and are ranked based on national, state and locally identified resource\u00a0priorities, and the overall benefit to the environment. An application that is not funded in the current fiscal\u00a0year, as well as applications accepted after the June 17th deadline, may be considered for funding in\u00a0fiscal year 2017.<\/p>\n
