Signups will be available for\u00a0the entire week. This year\u2019s theme for grades k \u2013 6 is \u201cOn Your Mark, Get\u00a0Set\u2026Read\u201d. \u201cGet in the Game, Read\u201d is the teen theme. The sign-ups will take\u00a0place on the second floor of the library!<\/p>\n<p>Puppeteer Nancy Sander will kick off our summer with her play, The\u00a0Three Billy Goats Gruff. Nancy Sander\u2019s Puppet Shows are full of fun for the\u00a0entire family. She has kicked off the Canastota Public Library\u2019s summers for\u00a0many years. Sander was the principal puppeteer consultant, puppet builder,\u00a0puppet creator and puppet script writer for the Emmy Award-winning children\u2019s\u00a0televisions show, \u201cHickory <!--more-->Hideout,\u201d produced by WKYC-TV and WNBC-TV. She\u00a0received an Emmy Award for her contribution to children\u2019s television. The show\u00a0also won the Parent\u2019s Choice Award, the National Education Association Award\u00a0and received a silver medal in the International Film and TV Awards of New York.<\/p>\n<p>Baby &amp;amp; Me Lapsit\u2019s summer sessions will begin on Wednesday, June 29, at\u00a010am. The program will run each Wednesday through August 3. In this\u00a0program, babies from birth to 24 months will listen to stories, sing songs, learn\u00a0finger plays and more. This is a great way to introduce your baby to the library.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, June 30, Storytime with Mrs. Liz returns to the library. Pre-\u00a0schoolers listen to stories, sing songs and make a craft during this weekly\u00a0program. Storytime will run each Thursday from June 30 through August 4 at\u00a010am.<\/p>\n<p>Every Saturday morning at 10:30am, the library hosts a Lego Block Party\u00a0in our children\u2019s room. Children of all ages are welcome to join us to create\u00a0interesting projects with the many Lego blocks that we have on hand. Legos\u00a0and imagination go hand in hand and we try to display as many of the wonderful\u00a0creations as we can in our second floor display case.<\/p>\n<p>Programs are also planned for the tween and teen age groups. Tweens\u00a0and teens should visit the library to sign up for specific programs. Programs\u00a0include a summer book club, a game day, craft days, movies, robotics and a\u00a0game making program.<\/p>\n<p>Pageturners Book Club will meet weekly beginning Monday, July 11 and\u00a0ending August 15. The meetings will be from 11:45am \u2013 12:45pm and students\u00a0should feel free to bring a lunch. The library will supply drinks and snacks.\u00a0Books include \u201cTheodore Boone, Kid Lawyer,\u201d by John Grisham as well as\u00a0\u201cConfessions of a Murder Suspect,\u201d by James Patterson and several others. \u00a0Books will be available to borrow from the library about a week prior to the\u00a0discussion. A complete list of books can be previewed at the library or on the\u00a0library\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p>On Mondays, tweens and teens can attend Monday Madness from 2:30 \u2013\u00a04pm. Each Monday, we\u2019ll either have a game day, a craft time or a movie at the\u00a0library. Movies planned include Superman vs. Batman and My Neighbor Totoro,\u00a0a Japanese animated fantasy about two sisters who befriend wood spirits.<\/p>\n<p>Ready Set, Robotics, is back again this year. Students between the ages\u00a0of ten and 15 can learn more about how robotics is used in the workplace. For\u00a0six Wednesday evenings beginning July 7, students can design, build and\u00a0program LEGO NXT Mindstorms Robots. The program will run from 5:30 \u2013\u00a07:30pm. Students will also have the opportunity to learn about Arduino Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>Those in sixth grade to 12th grade can also come to the library to learn how\u00a0to create a video game. Richard Marcous, Associate Professor of Computer &amp;\u00a0Information Technologies from Morrisville State College will kick off this weeklong workshop. This program will meet the week of Monday, July 25 each day\u00a0from 9am \u2013 10:30am to craft games. This workshop has limited spaces so students should sign up early.<\/p>\n<p>Special events that we have scheduled for the K \u2013 sixth grade and their\u00a0families include the following:<\/p>\n<p>Bingo Party, Wednesday, June 29 at 2pm in the Children\u2019s area for children in K\u00a0through 6 th grades. Prizes, games and a lot of fun will be had by all.<\/p>\n<p>Craft Day, Tuesday, July 7 at 2pm in the Children\u2019s area. Join us for a fun make\u00a0and take home craft.<\/p>\n<p>Musician David Black will perform at the library on Thursday, July 7 at 7pm. The\u00a0magic show will take place in the Children\u2019s area.<\/p>\n<p>Watch the movie, \u201cZootopia\u201d with us at the library on Wednesday, July 13 at\u00a0Craft Day, Monday, July 18 th at 2pm in the Children\u2019s area for children in K\u00a0through sixth grades<\/p>\n<p>Watch the movie, \u201cKung Fu Panda 3, The Weight is Over\u201d on Wednesday, July\u00a027 at 2pm.<\/p>\n<p>Live animals will visit the library on Thursday, July 28 at 7pm when Perfect\u00a0Ponies brings their special zoo of small animals.<\/p>\n<p>Jester Jim will visit us on Thursday, August 4 at 7pm for an evening of juggling,\u00a0beatboxing and more. Comedy juggling and magic is the name of the game\u00a0for this NY Juggler.\u00a0Jester Jim\u00a0has entertained thousands of people with\u00a0his hilarious self-titled show.<\/p>\n<p>For more information on our Summer Reading Programs, please contact\u00a0the library or stop by to sign up!
