{"id":70216,"date":"2016-06-23T23:35:28","date_gmt":"2016-06-24T03:35:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=70216"},"modified":"2016-06-23T21:39:38","modified_gmt":"2016-06-24T01:39:38","slug":"the-authority-offers-free-program-to-bring-recycling-to-special-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=70216","title":{"rendered":"The Authority Offers Free Program to Bring Recycling to Special Events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?attachment_id=70217\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-70217\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-70217\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/EVENT-CARDBOARD-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"EVENT CARDBOARD\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/EVENT-CARDBOARD-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/EVENT-CARDBOARD-150x101.jpg 150w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/EVENT-CARDBOARD.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The Oneida-Herkimer Solid Waste Authority (Authority) encourages recycling throughout the region and is\u00a0pleased to provide assistance by offering recycling containers for use at special community events.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of waste can be generated at events of any size, but with some planning, you can make your event low-or no-waste,\u201d stated Authority Recycling Educator Jamie Tuttle. \u201cBringing recycling to your special event is free\u00a0of charge and allows groups and organizations to help conserve our region\u2019s landfill space by keeping items\u00a0out of the trash and recovering them for recycling into brand new things,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n<p>In order to obtain\u00a0recycling containers, individuals or groups must complete a User<!--more--> Agreement Form.\u00a0The Authority offers two types of recycling containers.\u00a0Metal-Framed Recycling Container: Metal-Framed containers are easy to transport and are clearly labeled\u00a0with a plastic cover. The containers require a 40\u201d X 46\u201d clear plastic bag (NOT PROVIDED). The metal-framed\u00a0containers are available for LOAN at NO CHARGE.<\/p>\n<p>Cardboard Recycling Container: Cardboard recycling containers are available for collection of bottles and\u00a0cans. The cardboard containers are 18\u201d X 18\u201d X 36\u201d. Following your event, the containers can be saved for\u00a0reuse or recycled with other cardboard. The cardboard containers do not need to be returned to the Authority.<\/p>\n<p>Below are additional tips for recycling success at public events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recycling containers should be made available and placed NEXT TO garbage\/trash cans to prevent\u00a0recyclables from being mixed with garbage and vice versa.<\/li>\n<li>Recycling containers should be clearly marked so people can distinguish them from garbage\u00a0containers.<\/li>\n<li>Designated volunteers or staff should be available to monitor and empty recycling containers during\u00a0and after the event.<\/li>\n<li>Educate volunteers and ask them to check for contamination (i.e., garbage mixed with recyclables).<\/li>\n<li>Encourage vendors and organizers to \u201cTHINK GREEN.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Ask food vendors to consider alternatives to Styrofoam.\u00a0 (Styrofoam is not recyclable in our program.)<\/li>\n<li>Use recyclable paper for flyers and print materials.<\/li>\n<li>Promote your event electronically \u2013 spread the word using the web and social media.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To obtain a User Agreement Form, contact Jamie Tuttle at 733-1224 ext. 2300 or at jamiet@ohswa.org.\u00a0For more information on special event recycling or other Authority programs, please visit www.ohswa.org or\u00a0call 733-1224.
