Suzanne Farrell, one of the most celebrated dancers of the 20th century, and the famed muse of choreographer George Balanchine, will present an evening of ballet at View Arts in Old Forge on July 10 at 5 pm<\/span><\/span>. Since her retirement from the New York City Ballet in 1989 at the age of 44, after a thirty-year dancing career, she remains a legendary figure in the ballet world. In addition to serving as Artistic Director of her own ballet company at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC, she is also a repetiteur<\/i> for The George Balanchine Trust.<\/div>\n

During her twenty-eight years on the stage, she danced a repertory of more than one hundred ballets, nearly a third of which were composed expressly for her by Balanchine and other choreographers, including Jerome Robbins and Maurice B\u00e9jart. Her numerous performances with Balanchine’s company (more than two thousand), her world tours, and her appearances in television and movies have made her one of the most recognizable and highly esteemed artists of her generation. She is also the recipient of numerous artistic and academic accolades.<\/div>\n

Since the fall of 2000, Ms. Farrell has been a professor in the dance department at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. During \u201cAn Evening with Suzanne Farrell,\u201d on July 10<\/span><\/span>, Ms. Farrell will speak and her students will demonstrate “Exploring the life of a ballet dancer in the Adirondacks…\u201d<\/div>\n
