The need for blood doesn\u2019t decrease, though \u2013 every two\u00a0seconds, someone in the U.S. requires blood or platelets. In fact, a recent survey of Red Cross\u00a0blood and platelet donors showed that nearly half knew someone who needed blood or they needed blood themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonating blood helps save lives and can affect people you know and work alongside every day,\u201d said Scott Nethery, whose 7-year- old daughter Audrey requires frequent transfusions.\u00a0Audrey was born with Diamond Blackfan anemia, a rare condition where her body doesn\u2019t make\u00a0enough red blood cells. \u201cI am so appreciative of the individuals whose blood is within my\u00a0daughter at this very moment. Without<br \/>\n<!--more-->blood, my little angel would not be with us today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Donors of all blood types are needed now. All blood\u00a0types are needed to ensure a reliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver\u2019s license\u00a0or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years of age\u00a0(16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good\u00a0health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age\u00a0and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.<\/p>\n<p>Blood donors can now save time at their next donation by using RapidPass to complete their\u00a0pre-donation reading and health history questionnaire online, on the day of their donation, prior\u00a0to arriving at the blood drive.
