Participants in the \u2018Clay Play Workshop Series\u2019 have the opportunity to create their own unique pollinator sculptures, and then choose which creations will become part of the \u201cInsect Installation\u201d at Rogers Center.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Looking for a way to get your creative juices flowing? Want to \u201cleave your mark\u201d on the trails of Rogers Center? Join\u00a0special guest artist-in- residence Leigh Yardley for the first-ever \u2018Clay Play Workshop Series: Pollinator Sculptures.\u2019<\/p>\n

Yardley will guide workshop participants through the process of creating whimsical and \/or realistic pollinator\u00a0sculptures. Instruction will include crafting, sculpting, and painting techniques for clay.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great opportunity for anyone who likes to be creative and have fun with clay,\u201d said Environmental Educator\u00a0Sarah Freedman. \u201cEven those who are just trying something new will have a great time as they\u2019re guided towards\u00a0creating beautiful works of art.\u201d<\/p>\n

At the conclusion of the workshop series, participants will choose which of their creations will remain at Rogers Center\u00a0for the permanent \u201cInsect Installation\u201d display along the trails.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely grateful to the Chenango Arts Council\u2019s Decentralization Program for making this program possible,\u201d\u00a0said Simon Solomon, FOR executive director. \u201cSince 2011, when Friends of Rogers saved Rogers Environmental\u00a0Education Center from closing, we have relied on community grant programs such as those offered by the NYS Council\u00a0on the Arts to support our activities, allowing this vital resource to be preserved \u2013 and to flourish.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u2018Clay Play Workshop Series\u2019 will take place on July 16 and 23 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm in the Visitor Center at\u00a0Rogers Environmental Education Center, just off state Route 80 in Sherburne. Pre-registrations are due by noon\u00a0on July 15; fees are $18 per member and $20 for not-yet- members and cover both sessions.<\/p>\n

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers\u00a0Environmental\u00a0Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that\u00a0offers educational programs for all ages. Seasonal winter hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through\u00a0Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
