The program aims to \u201cgive residents the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly and recover as quickly as possible to pre-disaster conditions,\u201d according to the Corps\u2019 website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew guidelines from the State of New York recommend that each citizen be prepared to be self-sufficient for seven to 10 days after a disaster,\u201d said Ellen Earley, a Red Cross Disaster Preparedness Associate.<\/p>\n<p>The program is free and open to high-school students and adults.
