\"MABL3165Fritz\"<\/a>Fritz Scherz (Fritz’s Polka Band namesake)\u00a0from\u00a0Verona, has been nominated for a national award by the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame in Euclid, Ohil. Fritz (accordionist\/vocalist) has been nominated in the \u201cMusician of the Year\u201d\u00a0category. The winners will be announced during the CSPHOF Awards Show Saturday, Nov. 26\u00a0<\/span>at the\u00a0Cleveland Downtown Marriott Hotel as part of the annual Thanksgiving Polka Weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing nominated again came as quite a surprise,\u201d said Fritz Scherz, band leader of\u00a0Fritz’s Polka Band.\u00a0 \u201cAlthough I\u2019ve been\u00a0nominated before, it\u2019s never anything I take for granted. I truly appreciate the folks who voted for me and I want to wish the other\u00a0nominees good luck. Meanwhile, I encourage my friends to join the CSPHOF soon and vote for me, as the voting deadline is\u00a0Sept. 30.<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

Fritz’s Polka Band has been performing for over 37 years, and made history in 1999 by becoming the first polka band to play\u00a0at a Woodstock Festival in Rome. FPB has made 18 recordings and appears\u00a0on “The Manchurian Candidate”<\/em> DVD, released in FPB won a Just Plain Folks Music Award in the Best Polka Song category for Bialczak\u2019s Polka<\/em> in 2008. FPB won an Upper State Independent Award in Syracuse, in 2008 and 2009.\u00a0 In 2009, FPB won a Syracuse Area Music Award in the Best Recording:\u00a0Other Styles category for their \u201cReflections\u201d<\/em> recording.\u00a0 In 2010, FPB was inducted into the Syracuse Area Music Hall of Fame.\u00a0 In 2011,\u00a0FPB had two songs (\u2018Grandparent\u2019s Polka\u2019 and \u2018Here Is Fritz\u2019s Polka Band\u2019) included in two episodes of the TV show, \u2018Breaking Bad.\u2019<\/p>\n

FPB was nominated in 2012 for two USI Awards. In 2013, FPB released their 18th<\/sup> recording, a double live CD entitled, \u201cThe WSKG\u00a0<\/em>Sessions\u201d. <\/em>In late summer of 2014, all FPB members were nominated for national awards by the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
