Conditions\u00a0permitting, participants will walk along the trails of Rogers Center to find wild specimens in their native habitats.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0morning may also include a presentation on mushroom identification and their role in agriculture, industry, medicine,\u00a0and nature. Dress for the weather and bring any recently-collected mushrooms for identification.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very excited to be hosting the Mid-York Mycological Society,\u201d said Sarah Freedman, environmental educator.\u00a0\u201cThey will provide unique insight and guidance for budding mycologists <!--more-->seeking to learn more about the fascinating\u00a0world of spores, molds, and fungus.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to the North American Mycological Society, there are over 80 affiliated clubs in the United States, Canada and\u00a0Mexico. These groups are committed and dedicated to the promotion of scientific and educational activities related to\u00a0fungi. These societies encourage sustainable use of mushrooms as a resource and endorse responsible mushroom\u00a0collecting that does not harm fungi or habitats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are extremely grateful to Evergreene Graphics for partnering with us,\u201d said Simon Solomon, executive director.\u00a0\u201cSince 2011, when Friends of Rogers saved Rogers Environmental Education Center from closing, we have relied on the\u00a0generosity of local businesses like Evergreene Graphics to support community activities, allowing this vital resource to\u00a0be preserved \u2013 and to flourish.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Advance registration is highly encouraged at $2 for members or $3 for not-yet- members; call (607) 674-4733 or email\u00a0env.educator@FriendsofRogers.org to register.<\/p>\n<p>Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that\u00a0offers educational programs for all ages.
