Evans of 44 Beechnut Terrace, Whitesboro, was traveling north on I-81 when he drove off the left shoulder of the roadway, through the grassy median, where it turned sideways and into the path of a 2008 Saab SUV.<\/p>\n<p>The operator of the Saab, Robert G. Gardner, 51, was traveling south bound when he noticed a vehicle coming at him and was unable to avoid striking the vehicle on the<!--more--> driver\u2019s side, which caused the Scion to spin into a 2012 Ford Van, operated by Donald R. Patton Jr., 44, from Theresa.<\/p>\n<p>Evans was transported by ambulance to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and is currently listed in critical condition. Sean Jewett, 16, from Whitesboro, was a front seat passenger in the Scion. He was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he was pronounced deceased.<\/p>\n<p>Gardner was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse with multiple leg fractures and is listed in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>Patton was not injured in the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Interstate 81 southbound was closed for several hours while investigators from the Troop D Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) examined the crash scene.<\/p>\n<p>The investigation continues.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Oct. 3, 2016, at approximately 6:31 am, Troopers responded to a reported three vehicle crash on Interstate 81 north of exit 29n (Rt.481) in the Town of Cicero.
