The Friends of the Canastota Public Library are busy\u00a0preparing for this year\u2019s annual Book Sale. The sale, which will be held October 27, 28\u00a0and 29, is a highlight of autumn in the Canastota community.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had many local residents donate books to us this year,” said library director Liz Metzger. “Our Friends have been\u00a0working almost daily to sort and catalog these for the sale.\u201d<\/p>\n

The last day for donations for this annual sale will be Oct. 15 to\u00a0ensure that volunteers will be able to sort through the donations.<\/p>\n

Volunteers make this event a special one for the library. The Friends of the Library is\u00a0made up of volunteers who have helped to prepare for the sale and also work the many\u00a0hours for the sale. Raffle baskets are designed by some volunteers and donated in an\u00a0effort to earn additional revenues. As well, a local organization, Ralston Supply\u00a0Company will provide the tables needed to hold this event.<\/p>\n

Although the library has an ongoing book sale, this sale offers shoppers a chance to\u00a0meet with old friends and purchase from a great selection of books, VHS tapes, Audio\u00a0Tapes and CDs. Library commemorative items, such as book bag totes and note cards\u00a0will also be available. We even have homemade cookies and coffee on hand while you\u00a0shop!<\/p>\n

The money raised through this sale is always used to benefit the library\u2019s programs,\u00a0collection or enhance the building and services that the library offers. In previous years,\u00a0the money raised has been used to purchase new blinds and curtains for the Carnegie\u00a0Room, a dishwasher for the community kitchen and assistance in purchasing the laptop\u00a0computers that patrons may use throughout the library. A portion of the funds raised\u00a0during last year\u2019s book sale was also earmarked for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library\u00a0to offset the cost of mailing books to those youngsters in the program.<\/p>\n

Times for the sale are Oct. 27: 9 a.m. \u2013 8:30 p.m.; Oct. 28: 9 a.m. \u2013 5 p.m.;\u00a0Oct. 29: 10 a.m. \u2013 4 p.m.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
