Oct. 15 is International Archaeology Day and this outdoor\u00a0tour will seek out evidence of those past uses, locate built evidence, and re-imagine how\u00a0life was lived by the Oneida Community, its regional antecedents and descendants.<\/p>\n<p>This walking tour, led by OCMH director and archaeologist Kevin Coffee, will explore\u00a0the site of the first, wood frame, Mansion House; the sites of early water-powered\u00a0factories of the Oneida Community; the route of the Oswego &amp; Medford Railroad and\u00a0site of its Oneida Community station stop; and other landscape elements. Participants should wear comfortable hiking or walking shoes and appropriate clothing for the\u00a0weather. Binoculars and cameras are encouraged.<\/p>\n<p>The event is free for members, non-members are $7 and students (ages 8 &amp; up): $3.<\/p>\n<p>The Oneida Community Mansion House was the residence of the 19th-Century utopian\u00a0Oneida Community (1848 &#8211; 1880). OCMH preserves, collects and interprets material\u00a0culture, intangible heritage, and five historic buildings, situated on 33 acres of\u00a0landscaped lawns and gardens. OCMH is a National Historic Landmark and chartered\u00a0by the New York State Department of Education.<\/p>\n<p>The House is open for visitors Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.,\u00a0and Sunday from noon until 4 p.m. Guided tours are provided (with admission)\u00a0Wednesday through Saturday at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Oneida Community Mansion House is located at 170 Kenwood Ave., Oneida.
