The workplace is a major part of\u00a0American lives, but there has been an 83% increase in sedentary work in the U.S. since 1950.\u00a0Since 80% of heart <!--more-->disease and stroke are preventable with healthy lifestyle habits, employers\u00a0can make a difference in their employees\u2019 health.<\/p>\n<p>Dozens of people representing local companies gathered at the Resource Center for\u00a0Independent Living for the conference. The free event featured a heart-healthy breakfast,\u00a0networking opportunities, expert speakers, and a panel discussion. Breakout sessions focused\u00a0on topics including employee recognition, celebrating food, and music therapy.<\/p>\n<p>The morning\u2019s keynote speaker was Dr. Anne Cahill, cardiothoracic surgeon with Mohawk\u00a0Valley Health System.\u00a0During the conference, the AHA\/ASA announced a new worksite wellness webinar program.<\/p>\n<p>Starting in January, the AHA\/ASA will offer five lunchtime webinars focused on topics including\u00a0lifestyle management, nutrition, stress management, mental health in the workplace, and stroke\u00a0signs and symptoms.
