{"id":74746,"date":"2016-10-31T20:46:12","date_gmt":"2016-11-01T00:46:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=74746"},"modified":"2016-10-30T20:53:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-31T00:53:34","slug":"letter-responds-to-comment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=74746","title":{"rendered":"LETTER: Responds to Comment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?attachment_id=70195\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-70195\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-70195 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/letter-to-editor-300x218.gif\" alt=\"letter-to-editor\" width=\"300\" height=\"218\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/letter-to-editor-300x218.gif 300w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/letter-to-editor-150x109.gif 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>To the Editor:<\/p>\n<p>Recently Jackie Schmidts made comments regarding one of my editorials.<\/p>\n<p>First:\u00a0 The Federal Order Systems were created because back in the 1930s dairy farmers were victimized by the prices that milk processors were paying for milk.<\/p>\n<p>The United States created the Federal Milk Marketing Orders to stabilize marketing conditions\u00a0and to mandate that milk handlers pay dairy farmers a fair price for their milk.<\/p>\n<p>Second-The Federal Orders do not cost taxpayers any money.\u00a0The orders are maintained by the buyers of milk whether they are milk co-ops or private handlers.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Third-Yes, the Federal Orders do require a minimum price to be paid to dairy farmers.\u00a0However, the Federal Orders do not prevent dairy cooperatives or dairy farmers from negotiating a premium price for their milk above the Federal minimum price.<\/p>\n<p>We have successfully negotiated premiums of $1.50 per cwt. (hundred-weight) up to $2 per cwt. above the minimum price.\u00a0Jackie\u2019s suggestions to get rid of the Federal Orders only plays into the policies of the International Food Association (which they would enjoy) and could force dairy farmers back into the 1930s.<\/p>\n<p>However, we do need a new pricing formula which would consider our dairy farmers\u2019 cost of production.\u00a0In addition, we need a milk supply management program to maintain a balance of the milk supply for the consumer.\u00a0Neither of these programs would cost the taxpayer any funds.\u00a0Jackie, how about printing your address, plus your phone number, and I would be happy to communicate more with you.<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely,\u00a0Arden Tewksbury, Manager, Pro-Ag<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To the Editor: Recently Jackie Schmidts made comments regarding one of my editorials.
