\"\"<\/a>The Oneida Area Civic Chorale will present \u201cPops Goes the Chorale\u201d,\u00a0on Saturday, March 11<\/span><\/span>, at 7:30 PM<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Sunday, March 12<\/span><\/span>, at 4:00 PM<\/span><\/span><\/a>\u00a0at the Kallet Civic Center in Oneida.\u00a0 The concerts will be directed by Kimberly Nethaway of Rome, and accompanied on piano by Bernadette VanValkenburg of Sherrill and Tina Toglia of New Hartford.\u00a0 Guest artist will be local musician Gary Johnson.\u00a0 Concert seating will be cabaret-style, and a cash bar, treats and desserts by Sweet Indulgence will be available.<\/div>\n

\u201cPops Goes the Chorale\u201d is the second concert of the 100-voice, non-audition community chorus\u2019s 50th Anniversary Season.\u00a0 The program will include favorite pop songs that the OACC has performed over the last five decades, as well as a few newer hits, and several singers will perform solos.\u00a0 Don Drake of West Winfield and Twyla Edwards of Ava will solo on the\u00a0Simon and Garfunkel<\/a>\u00a0hit, \u201cBridge Over Troubled Water\u201d, and \u201cAlways Look on the Bright Side of Life\u201d, from the musical \u201cSpamalot\u201d, will feature solos by John Nethaway of Rome and Rob Wright, Oneida Castle. Mark Maginn, Oneida, will perform a solo on the\u00a0Leonard Cohen<\/a>\u00a0classic \u201cHallelujah\u201d, and\u00a0ABBA<\/a>\u2019s \u201cThank You For the Music\u201d will include solos by Sarah Terrell of Sherrill and Kathy Gay of Oneida Castle. The Chorale will also perform the 2015 Adele hit \u201cWhen We Were Young\u201d, with a solo by Lorraine Burney of Richfield Springs.<\/div>\n

The women of the Chorale will sing \u201cSecond Hand Rose\u201d, by Grant Clarke and James F. Hanley, with a solo by Becky Ewen of Oneida.\u00a0 The men will perform Lerner and Loewe\u2019s \u201cGet Me to the Church On Time\u201d.\u00a0 Chorale member Amanda Yeoman will provide flute accompaniment as the group sings \u201cInto the West\u201d, by Walsh, Shore and Lennox.<\/div>\n

Guest Artist Gary Johnson of Sylvan Beach will perform with the Chorale as a special 50th Anniversary Season treat.\u00a0 Johnson, an Oneida High School graduate, was the Chorale\u2019s 2001 Senior Scholarship recipient.\u00a0 He is now a National Touring Musician who performs on approximately 100 college campuses per year.\u00a0 He was awarded Campus Activities Magazine’s 2014 Musician of the Year and nominated 2015 Male Performer of the Year.\u00a0 Johnson has collaborated with several multi-platinum selling artists, including former members of Boston,\u00a0The Fray<\/a>,\u00a0Breaking Benjamin<\/a>, and more.\u00a0 He recently contributed original music for the Multi-International Award Winning motion picture “Beyond the Mat<\/a>“, and is currently preparing for the International Release of his highly anticipated sophomore album. When not on tour, he spends his time in Upstate NY with his wife and daughter, where he is a volunteer firefighter and founder of an award-winning Animal Rescue.<\/div>\n

At the concert, Johnson will perform as a One Man Band, and his songs will be chosen by Text Request from the audience. He will spontaneously replicate all of the instruments, vocals, background vocals, and even special effects using only his guitar, his voice and a one-of-a-kind loopstation.<\/div>\n

According to Director Nethaway, the program will be a good mix of pop favorites.\u00a0 She said, “There will plenty of standard tunes, as well as some more contemporary arrangements, with something for every listener.\u201d<\/div>\n
