{"id":79348,"date":"2017-03-31T21:34:03","date_gmt":"2017-04-01T01:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=79348"},"modified":"2017-03-30T20:43:13","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T00:43:13","slug":"brindisi-says-assembly-budget-reduces-tax-burden-for-working-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=79348","title":{"rendered":"Brindisi says Assembly budget reduces tax burden for working families"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?attachment_id=79349\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-79349\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-79349\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/119_hdrhs-211x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"211\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/119_hdrhs-211x300.png 211w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/119_hdrhs-105x150.png 105w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/119_hdrhs-400x569.png 400w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/119_hdrhs.png 404w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 211px) 100vw, 211px\" \/><\/a>Budget Increases School Aid and Begins a Phase-in of the Foundation Aid the State\u2019s Struggling School Districts Need to Provide a Good Education<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Brindisi: \u201cThis spending plan will help millions of New Yorkers, by creating a fairer tax structure, and helping boost wages for many New Yorker health care workers\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says the State Assembly\u2019s proposed \u2018Families First\u2019 Budget will make much needed changes to the state\u2019s tax structure benefitting working families, while at the same time helping boost wages for many of New York\u2019s direct care workers.\u00a0 The $153.8 billion spending plan for 2017-2018 also expands the Tuition Assistance Program, making college more affordable for New York families.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis spending plan will help millions of New Yorkers, by making much-needed changes to the tax structure; boosting wages for many direct care workers, and making the goal of a college education more <!--more-->attainable for middle and low-income families.\u00a0 We are also continuing the Assembly\u2019s commitment to helping improve services to veterans and the elderly, as well as providing a much-needed increase to help communities make repairs to roads and bridges,\u201d Brindisi said.<\/p>\n<p>Brindisi says the Assembly\u2019s 2017-2018 spending plan:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Continues a gradual reduction in personal income taxes for middle income wage earners that began last year.\u00a0 When fully implemented, the tax reductions will benefit about six million New Yorkers;<\/li>\n<li>Allocates $26.5 billion in school aid, an increase of $1 billion, or 7.4 percent, and rejects the Executive Branch\u2019s repeal of the Foundation Aid formula, beginning a four-year phase-in of the state\u2019s obligation to its neediest school districts;<\/li>\n<li>Promotes college affordability by increasing funding for opportunity programs, expanding the Tuition Assistance Program, and also including a new refundable credit for interest on student loans. It proposes exploring options for refinancing student loan debt for New York residents and provides more than $1.4 billion in capital investments at public colleges and universities;<\/li>\n<li>Begins a six-year plan to provide an initial $45 million to create a living wage for direct care workers.\u00a0 This is designed to ease the burden service providers often have finding quality direct care professional staff, helping keep health care facilities safe and properly staffed, while also providing a much needed wage increase for the people who care for some of the state\u2019s most vulnerable citizens;<\/li>\n<li>Invests $700 million in capital funding for the state\u2019s health care and community-based providers, and includes over $79 million to combat heroin and opioid addiction in our communities;<\/li>\n<li>Includes $1 million for Veterans Treatment Courts, which are specialized courts for veterans facing lesser criminal charges that are designed to prevent veterans with mental health issues from being inappropriately incarcerated.\u00a0 The Assembly budget also includes $675,000 in funding or various veterans\u2019 programs;<\/li>\n<li>An additional $50 million in Consolidated Highway Improvement Programs (CHIPs) funds to help communities keep their roads and bridges in good repair.\u00a0 The budget also includes allocations for the Pave NY Program, which helps municipalities to reconstruct local highways and roads;<\/li>\n<li>$508 million in operating aid for upstate and non MTA transit systems, and $114.5 million for the Department of Transportation\u2019s Capital Plan for non-MTA capital projects, which is an increase of $3 million above the Executive Budget proposal;<\/li>\n<li>Includes major investments in funding for important senior programs and services, including funding to provide resources to help seniors handle the cost of prescription drugs, and to expand community services for the elderly;<\/li>\n<li>Creates the office of the Utility Consumer Advocate, which would represent the interests of residential utility customers who have issues related to billing or service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Budget Increases School Aid and Begins a Phase-in of the Foundation Aid the State\u2019s Struggling School Districts Need to Provide a Good Education\u00a0 Brindisi: \u201cThis spending plan will help millions of New Yorkers, by creating a fairer tax structure, and helping boost wages for many New Yorker health care workers\u201d Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi says the [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":79349,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[23814,8],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-79348","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-state","category-top-story"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/79348","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=79348"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/79348\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/79349"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=79348"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=79348"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=79348"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
