We all need to be more aware of motorcyclists in order to save lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wearing a helmet is an important way for a motorcyclist to stay safe, but we all play a part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s up\u00a0to all motorists and motorcyclists to make our roads safer,\u201d Riley said. \u201cAll road users need to share the responsibility of keeping the roadways safe. By following road signs, obeying speed limits, and <!--more-->always staying focused on the road, deaths could be prevented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?attachment_id=79978\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-79978\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-79978\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/motorcycles-1-300x240.jpg?resize=300%2C240\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"240\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/motorcycles-1.jpg?resize=300%2C240&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/motorcycles-1.jpg?resize=150%2C120&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/motorcycles-1.jpg?resize=400%2C320&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/motorcycles-1.jpg?w=489&amp;ssl=1 489w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Sheriff Riley offered tips to drivers on how to prevent a crash with a motorcycle:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Though a motorcycle is a small vehicle, its operator still has all the rights of the road as any other motorist. Allow the motorcycle the full width of a lane at all times.<\/li>\n<li>Always signal when changing lanes or merging with traffic.<\/li>\n<li>If you see a motorcycle with a signal on, be careful: motorcycle signals are often non-canceling and could have been forgotten. Always ensure that the motorcycle is turning\u00a0before proceeding.<\/li>\n<li>Check all mirrors and blind spots for motorcycles before changing lanes or merging with traffic, especially at intersections.<\/li>\n<li>Always allow more follow distance \u2013 three to four seconds \u2013 when behind a motorcycle.
