This season, the Generals are raising money for a four-year-old girl, Amelia Spencer, a child enrolled in our Children’s Center who has been diagnosed with brain cancer.

According to Amelia’s family, her most recent surgery was a success as doctors said there appeared to be no cancerous cells. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family in the hopes that the pathology report comes back clean as well. Amelia has been a brave trooper through this entire experience and her ruthless courage is an inspiration to all. Herkimer Softball would like to do their part to help support Amelia and her family in this trying time working jointly with the Hugs for Amelia organization through the Hits for Hope initiative,” said Anadio.

Herkimer College will host Clinton Community College in a doubleheader this Sunday, April 30 at 1 p.m. The fundraiser is open to any individual, family, business or organization willing to participate. Donations will depend on the success of the Herkimer Generals bats as donations are contingent with base hits from both games. A single earns $5, a double $10, a triple $20, and a homerun earns $50. These are suggested donations; however, any donations are appreciated and accepted. All checks should be made out to Herkimer Softball FSA. All funds raised will go to the Spencer family.

For questions regarding the Hits for Hope initiative, contact PJ Anadio at anadiopr@herkimer.edu or (518)848-6693.

Herkimer College head softball coach PJ Anadio has initiated a community service program named Hits for Hope as a fundraiser to support area youth.
