More than 400 people from the Mohawk Valley came together at SUNY Polytechnic Institute for the 2017 Alzheimer\u2019s Association Walk To End Alzheimer\u2019s \u2014 Utica\/Rome. The event raised $61,960 for care, support and research programs.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlzheimer\u2019s disease is a growing epidemic in this country and it\u2019s already the most expensive disease in America,\u201d said Catherine James, chief executive officer for the Alzheimer\u2019s Association, Central New York Chapter. \u201cThe generous efforts of this community not only support local family services, but contribute to our effort to end Alzheimer\u2019s forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Walk To End Alzheimer\u2019s participants did more than complete the three-mile walk. They learned about Alzheimer\u2019s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause. Funds raised at the event provide care and support programs for the region, as well as medical and scientific research to find a cure for Alzheimer\u2019s disease and other forms of dementia.<\/p>\n

Nancy Purcell of Caroga Lake was the top individual fundraiser at $3,080. Sweet Young Innocent and Pure, a family and friends team from Rome was the leading fundraising team at $6,792. A list of the top 10 fundraising individuals and teams can be found at alz.org\/walk<\/a>.<\/p>\n
