Run the Boilermaker with Team Make-A- Wish and make wishes come true<\/strong><\/p>\n

Charity Bib Partner has bibs available for 2017 race events; team includes Mohawk Valley runners Johnston, <\/em>McLaughlin and Schrader<\/em><\/p>\n

For anyone who has ever caught a glimpse of the 19,000-plus people gathered in Utica on Boilermaker Road Race day and thought, \u201cI want to do that someday,\u201d – here\u2019s\u00a0your chance to run with a purpose.<\/p>\n

Make-A-Wish Central New York, one of 10 Boilermaker 2017 Charity Bib Partners, has bibs available that provide access to either the 15K or 5K races on July 9, or the three-mile walk July 8.<\/p>\n

Team Make-A-Wish runners agree to raise $1,000 in support of wishes for children with life- threatening medical conditions. Participants are provided with team gear, as well as an online fundraising platform and support to achieve their goal.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s Make-A-Wish Charity Bib Team includes a mix of wish kids, wish family members, and Make-A-Wish volunteers and supporters from throughout New York state and Massachusetts. Mohawk Valley runners include Tim Johnston of Utica, Wish Kid Alex McLaughlin of Holland Patent, and Wish Mom Jill Schrader of Ilion.<\/p>\n

Established by Earle C. Reed in 1978, the Boilermaker Road Race was founded as a way for Reed to give back to the Utica community as a means of saying thank you for the support of Utica Boilers, his family\u2019s business (now known as ECR International). The race began with 800 runners and today attracts more than 17,000.<\/p>\n

In addition to Make-A-Wish, the non-profit organizations participating in this year\u2019s Charity Bib Program include The Food Bank of Central New York, Sitrin Health Care Center, Central New York Veterans Outreach Center, Midtown Utica Community Center, The Root Farm, Masonic Care Community, Griffin\u2019s Guardians, The Joseph Michael Chubbuck Foundation and The Salvation Army.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
