{"id":81247,"date":"2017-05-29T01:28:51","date_gmt":"2017-05-29T05:28:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=81247"},"modified":"2017-05-28T16:51:37","modified_gmt":"2017-05-28T20:51:37","slug":"herkimer-generals-softball-players-earn-honors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=81247","title":{"rendered":"Herkimer Generals softball players earn honors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?attachment_id=53048\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-53048\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-53048\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/HerkimerGenerals_logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"214\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/HerkimerGenerals_logo.jpg 300w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/HerkimerGenerals_logo-150x107.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Four Herkimer Generals softball players have been named 1st team All-Mountain Valley Conference, as well as 1st team All-Region III.\u00a0<\/span><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\">Representing the infield is sophomore Molly McGuire (Syracuse) batting .446 with a .793 slugging percentage.\u00a0McGuire drove in 29 RBIs and led the team with 6 home runs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><u><\/u><u><\/u><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\">Alongside McGuire is fellow infielder, freshman Shannon Moore (Norwich).\u00a0Moore was fifth in the nation hitting .545 and 11th for RBIs driving in 50.\u00a0She also led her team with 26 extra base hits including 17 doubles, 6 triples and 3 homers in 33 games played.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><u><\/u><u><\/u><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\">Representing the outfield is sophomore Taylor Fry (Gasport).\u00a0Fry was also an offensive catalyst as the leadoff hitter in the Herkimer lineup.\u00a0She hit .478 with an on-base percentage of .523.\u00a0She earned 32 stolen bases and was only caught stealing once all season.\u00a0Fry led her team in runs scored with 47.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><u><\/u><u><\/u><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\">The fourth and final player earning a spot is freshman pitcher Keeanna Wolcik from Baldwinsville, Wolcik threw an undefeated season going 16-0 and developed a very respectable ERA of 1.63, averaging second in the nation with 11.28 strikeouts per game.\u00a0She held her opponents to a .178 batting average and allowed only 20 earned runs in 85.2 innings.\u00a0<u><\/u><u><\/u><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\">Wolcik was also honored as Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year, and recognized nationally as a member of the NJCAA All-Tournament team alongside her teammate Paige Crittela (Syracuse) at the national championship tournament.<\/span><u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\">Head Coach PJ Anadio said, \u201cI\u2019m very proud of these young ladies.\u00a0Their hard work off the field has driven their performance and success on the field.\u201d<\/span> <u><\/u><u><\/u><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_-8481516120981947259p1\"><span class=\"m_-8481516120981947259s1\">The 2017 Herkimer Generals softball team placed third in the NJCAA Division III National Championship Tournament and first in the Region IIIA championship tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four Herkimer Generals softball players have been named 1st team All-Mountain Valley Conference, as well as 1st team All-Region III.\u00a0 Representing the infield is sophomore Molly McGuire (Syracuse) batting .446 with a .793 slugging percentage.\u00a0McGuire drove in 29 RBIs and led the team with 6 home runs.
