{"id":84416,"date":"2017-09-08T21:28:00","date_gmt":"2017-09-09T01:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=84416"},"modified":"2017-09-08T13:33:10","modified_gmt":"2017-09-08T17:33:10","slug":"herkimer-county-healthnet-collaborating-with-village-of-mohawk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=84416","title":{"rendered":"Herkimer County HealthNet Collaborating with Village of Mohawk"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_84417\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-84417\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?attachment_id=84417\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-84417\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-84417\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Village-of-Mohawk-Tick-Signs-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Village-of-Mohawk-Tick-Signs-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Village-of-Mohawk-Tick-Signs-113x150.jpg 113w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Village-of-Mohawk-Tick-Signs-675x900.jpg 675w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/Village-of-Mohawk-Tick-Signs-400x533.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-84417\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pictured from left are HCHN Program Coordinator Elyse Enea, Village Supervisor Mike Shedd<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Herkimer County HealthNet has been collaborating with the Village of Mohawk on numerous projects that address health and safety issues for its citizens.\u00a0 Through the Local IMPACT grant from NYS Department of Health, HCHN provided the Village of Mohawk with funding to repaint more than seventy village crosswalks and pedestrian signals.\u00a0 According to Elyse Enea, Program Coordinator at HCHN, \u201cBy adding fresh paint we can enhance the visibility of the drivers to crosswalks, but also to be able to encourage pedestrians to utilize them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the improved crosswalks, HCHN has also provided Tick Awareness Signage for the Village to erect in two community parks.\u00a0 The Village of Mohawk is taking an active role in educating and protecting park visitors from Lyme and other tick-borne diseases by placing signs that include information on how to avoid tick bites, and the various deer tick sizes to enable park goers to identify a tick should they encounter one.\u00a0 The tick information signs were installed to coincide with the time when ticks are most active, which is from late spring to early autumn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are important actions that will increase pedestrian safety, and we appreciate working with Herkimer County HealthNet on this initiative\u201d said Supervisor Mike Shedd.<\/p>\n<p>Development and implementation of these projects is supported by Local IMPACT, the NYSDOH program on\u00a0Initiatives for\u00a0Multi-Sector\u00a0Public Health\u00a0Action.\u00a0\u00a0The Local IMPACT initiative supports the statewide goals of improving population health, transforming health care delivery and reducing health disparities.
