In October, the Canastota Public Library is gearing up our fall\u00a0programming efforts with new story hours, cooking demonstrations, another Ted Talk, an exciting Canal Town Talk and our Annual Friends
\nof the Library Book Sale.<\/p>\n

The library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 9, for Columbus Day. We will reopen on Tuesday, October 10 for regular\u00a0programming.<\/p>\n

Loreen Collins is the artist on display in our Lawson Community Room for the Library in October. She uses many different forms and techniques for her art. Lori\u2019s October show will feature some new pieces recently painted while she was on an art retreat on the coast of Maine. An artist\u2019s reception for Lori will be held on Tuesday, Oct.\u00a010, at 7 p.m. in our Lawson Community Room.<\/p>\n

Baby and Me Lapsit with Miss Angela begins again Wednesday, Oct. 11, and runs each Wednesday morning through Dec. 20. In these 10 a.m. sessions, Miss Angela introduces you and your baby (age birth to 2 years) to the world of books at the\u00a0library. Play time immediately follows these sessions.<\/p>\n

Storytime with Mrs. Liz will start up on Thursdays in October\u00a0beginning Oct. 12 and running through Dec. 21.<\/p>\n

Preschoolers enjoy read-aloud stories, games, crafts and a snack. The\u00a0fun begins at 10 am and lasts for about an hour.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, October 12, our Canalside Talk will feature the movie, \u201cBoom and Bust\u201d with Dan Ward at 7pm. \u201cBoom and Bust: America\u2019s Journey on the Erie Canal\u201d is a 30-minute documentary that examines the economic boom created by the Erie Canal\u2019s trade routes.<\/p>\n

Dan Ward is a co-producer of the film. He will be on hand to lead the discussion following the viewing. Ward is a folklorist and historian who has directed research, field work and historical projects for many
\norganizations throughout the United States. This program is co-sponsored by the Canal Town Museum and the Canastota Public Library.<\/p>\n

Our second TED TALK will be held during the noon lunch hour Oct. 17. Feel free to bring your lunch and meet with Barbara Henderson, the Executive Director of the Great Swamp Conservancy.<\/p>\n

The TED TALK Barbara will show features Emma Marris and is titled, \u201cNature is Everywhere \u2013 We Just Need to Learn to See It.\u201d The\u00a0presentation begins at noon.<\/p>\n

Cooking with Angela will be offered twice this fall-in October and November. Angela Rigler, from our staff, has research and tested some great recipes worthy of your kitchen. The first session will be held Wednesday, Oct. 18, at 7 pm in the Lawson Room. Angela\u2019s menu will consist of a delicious Roasted Butternut Squash Quinoa\u00a0Salad and a lovely Pumpkin Ravioli. Recipes and some of Ang\u2019s special tips will be available in handout format for attendees. Reservations are a must, as we do have space limitations.<\/p>\n
