Additionally, volunteers and students will plant flowers in the newly constructed flower beds in front of the school as part of an initiative by the Syracuse School District and clean up the neighborhood directly surrounding the school as part of the Onondaga County Save the Rain #BlockLitter campaign. Baltimore Woods Nature Center’s Nature in the City education team will be on hand to teach students about the important role rain gardens play in improving water quality in the local watershed and to assist Carrier employees in their work project. Onondaga County Save the Rain installed the rain garden in 2012 and is collaborating with Baltimore Woods Nature Center on plant selection for the project. The school rain garden will be used in ongoing Nature in the City lessons.

WHO:
Lou Anne Mann, Global Community Affairs Coordinator, Carrier Corporation
Carrier Corporation employees
Stephen Polera, Vice Principal of Seymour Dual Language Academy
Whitney Lash-Marshall, Executive Director, Baltimore Woods Nature Center
Baltimore Woods Nature Center’s Nature in the City educators

WHEN:
Thursday, October 5, 2017 from 10:30am-12:30pm
Rain Date: Friday, October 6, 2017 from 10:30am-12:30pm

WHERE:
Outside in front of Seymour Dual Language Academy, 108 Shonnard St, Syracuse

DETAILS:
Nature in the City, Baltimore Woods Nature Center’s award-winning science education program, brings
authentic, hands-on/minds-on natural science learning to K-6 th grade students in all 19 Syracuse City elementary schools.
