Morrisville State College University Police, the Student Government Organization and AT&T educated students about the dangers of smartphone distracted driving.<\/p>\n

As a result of their successful collaboration last spring,\u00a0AT&T\u00a0again\u00a0brought their\u00a0virtual reality simulator to\u00a0campus,\u00a0allowing\u00a0students and faculty\u00a0to experience firsthand how dangerous it\u00a0is\u00a0to\u00a0take\u00a0their\u00a0eyes off the road\u00a0and look at their smartphone. The simulator demonstrates true life hazards of all smartphone activities while driving in 3D virtual reality.<\/p>\n

The program is part of AT&T\u2019s \u201cIt Can Wait\u201d campaign, a national movement urging drivers to keep their eyes on the road, not on their phones.\u00a0The campaign has expanded to include overall dangers of smartphone use behind the wheel.<\/p>\n

AT&T research\u00a0shows that seven in\u00a010 people engage in smartphone activities while driving. While 95\u00a0percent\u00a0of drivers disapprove of distracted driving,\u00a0it leads to\u00a0more than 431,000 crashes a year, according to AT&T.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe understand the potentially devastating consequences of distracted driving, and we know that if people misuse smartphones and other devices while behind the wheel, they risk injuring or killing themselves and others,\u201d said Kevin Hanna, regional director of external affairs at AT&T. \u201cOur mission is education, and our message is simple: No text, email, social media update, or photo is worth your life.\u00a0Keep your eyes on the road, not your phone.\u00a0It Can Wait!\u201d<\/p>\n

Morrisville State College students were encouraged to take\u00a0the \u201cIt Can Wait\u201d pledge, to never drive distracted. Their pledges added to more than\u00a015 million others to keep eyes on the road, not on phones.<\/p>\n

University Police officers participate in campus socials and educational programs throughout the year to educate, promote positive interaction, and encourage open communication.<\/p>\n

Through an ongoing partnership between Morrisville State College and AT&T, each resident student is issued an AT&T cell phone for their use while living on campus. The AT&T cell phone includes unlimited text messaging and calling within the continental U.S.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
