WRHA needs your help! While heartworm in dogs is preventable, it is not incurable if detected and treated early, and the staff at Wanderers\u2019 Rest will fight to see animals leave the shelter alive even when faced with tough situations.<\/div>\n

Archie, a sweet shepherd mix, is heartworm positive, which requires a few months of treatment and recovery. In addition to this, Archie needs to remain calm and relaxed when undergoing treatment, which is nearly impossible in a shelter environment. The cost of this treatment varies widely depending on each vet; however, for Archie\u2019s treatment, it will cost between $850 and $900.<\/div>\n

Even though shelter staff have donated toward Archie\u2019s treatment, we are still looking for help in raising the rest of the money needed for Archie\u2019s treatment and to find his forever home. Archie also needs a foster home (or adopter who is willing to foster while being treated) before the heavier treatment begins\u00a0in one month<\/span><\/span>.<\/div>\n

Because of WRHA\u2019s goal of helping as many animals as we can, including animals with health issues, Wanderers\u2019 Rest is starting a medical fund specifically to provide treatment\/tests\/emergency vet visits to cats and dogs which we may not be able to afford otherwise. This fund will be called “Archie\u2019s Fund” and will help to ensure every animal receives the best chance possible.
