A nationally touring artist with a deep love of quiet stories,\u00a0Anna Tivel\u00a0is beginning to carve a place for herself in the songwriting world. She was recently chosen a winner of both the Telluride Troubadour Contest and the Kerrville New Folk Contest, placed second at the Rocky Mountain songwriting contest, and has shared the stage with heroes and friends alike.<\/p>\n
Anna was raised in the forest and farmland of rural northern Washington and currently calls Portland, Ore., home. Her songs reflect both the stark colors of small-town life and the hard, sharp lines of the city. Her newest album, Heroes Waking UP, was produced by guitar mastermind Austin Nevins (Josh Ritter, Anais Mitchell, Kris Delmhorst). Folk Radio UK called it, “a superb and sublime album from a voice that deserves to be shouted from the highest rooftops.\u201d Her previous album, Before Machines, was hailed by No Depression as \u201craw, yet superbly composed and executed, intelligent, personal and deeply expressive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Born in Texas in 1984,\u00a0Jeffrey Martin\u00a0quickly made his way to the Northwest where he discovered in nature and in people what would be the deep well for much of his songwriting.\u00a0 His father was a lover of stories, especially in music, and Martin was raised with a careful ear cocked and listening to Neil Young, John Prine, Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, and Harry Chapin.\u00a0 He was fortunate to live in Eugene, OR, for much of his adolescence where, in the late 90s and early 2000s, there was a strong and steady flow of folk songwriters touring through.<\/p>\n
Jeffrey Martin tours full time now. He is always making music, and he is always coming through your town. He misses teaching like you might miss a good old friend who you know you’ll meet again.\u00a0 He has put out bunches of music since 2009, but he’s most proud of the more recent stuff.\u00a0 He’s fortunate to be a part of the great and loving family that is Fluff and Gravy Records in Portland, OR. One Go Around, due out in October 2017, will be his third full-length album. At his luckiest, he’s shared shows with the likes of Sean Hayes, Gregory Alan Isakov, Jeffrey Foucault, Joe Pug,\u00a0 Peter Mulvey, Amanda Shires, Tracy Grammer, David Wilcox, and others.<\/p>\n
