Experience the magic of winter during the 40th annual Winter Living Celebration from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at Rogers Environmental Education Center in Sherburne. Hosted by Friends of Rogers, this fun-filled\u00a0day will be packed with outdoor activities, demonstrations, and live performances.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re excited to be celebrating the 40 th anniversary of this beloved festival, which we know our community looks forward to with great anticipation every year,\u201d said Simon Solomon, Friends of Rogers executive director. \u201cThis year, thanks to the generosity of Lok \u2018n Logs, we are able to enhance the winter living experience by supplementing traditional event demonstrations with new guest vendors.\u201d<\/p>\n

For this year\u2019s celebration, world-class ice-sculptor Stanley Kolonko of The Ice Farm will be on hand, along with his \u201cbest ice south of the Arctic Circle.\u201d<\/p>\n

In keeping with Winter Living Celebration tradition, visitors have the opportunity to be a \u201chuman bird-
\nfeeder,\u201d make crafts in the Bird Cabin, view Environmental Conservation Officer and Forest Ranger\u00a0demonstrations, take a horse-drawn sleigh ride, and roast marshmallows over a campfire to make s\u2019mores.<\/p>\n

Area Boys Scouts will share their on-site winter camping experience. Interactive live demonstrations will be\u00a0presented on cross-cut sawing, ice-fishing, and fly-tying with Trout Unlimited. Weather permitting, free cross-country skiing and snowshoeing will be available.<\/p>\n

Perennial favorite the Susquehanna String Band returns to provide musical entertainment. Unique among today\u2019s traditional music groups, the SSB features Rick Bunting, Dan Duggan, John Kirk, and special guest Trish Miller. While each are all accomplished solo performers in a wide variety of styles of music, their combined talents create an exciting ensemble effect in the performance of traditional music from America\u00a0and the British Isles. They have four recording projects to their credit including their latest release, \u201cAuld Lang Syne.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thanks to the Chenango Bird Club and the Rotary Club of Sherburne, refreshments will be available for purchase, with all proceeds to benefit Friends of Rogers.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur Winter Living Celebration is the perfect opportunity to experience new outdoor adventures,\u201d said Sarah Freedman, Friends of Rogers environmental educator. \u201cMany visitors have shared they have a renewed sense of appreciation for winter by trying something during the festivities.\u201d<\/p>\n

While there is no charge, Friends of Rogers encourages contributions to support future operations. Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers\u00a0Environmental\u00a0Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages. Seasonal hours are from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday, and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
