The Schweinfurth Art Center announces it has received $67,000 in funding to replace the flooring on the main level of the Art Center. The project, which begins Jan. 15, 2018, is expected to take several weeks from start to finish and involves the replacement of the original vinyl tile floor which dates back to 1981. The new flooring will be installed in the lobby, main level galleries, gift shop, kitchen and offices.

The project is made possible with support from local foundations including the Fred L. Emerson Foundation, The D.E. French Foundation, The Stanley W. Metcalf Foundation, The Columbian Foundation, and a generous gift from Frank Hastedt in memory of Shirley Hastedt, a long-time Schweinfurth volunteer and former Board Member of the Art Center.

Due to the construction project, the annual Both Ends of the Rainbow and Three Lakes Sampler exhibits, which feature more than 1,000 works of art by local students and seniors aged 65 and over, will be held later than previous years. The Schweinfurth will hold the Opening Reception for students Sunday, March 18, from noon to 5 p.m., and a special reception for senior artists Thursday, March 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. The receptions are free and open to the public. The exhibit is sponsored by Nucor Steel of Auburn.

Winter Art Camp will take place as usual during the February school break, from Feb. 19 through 23.

The Art Center building will be closed to the public through Feb. 11.
