Andrew Collins to perform at Nelson Odeon Feb. 17<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Nelson Odeon\u00a0is no stranger to a range of musical talent. The venue supports a plethora of genres \u2013 including Folk, Bluegrass, Blues, Celtic, and Jazz \u2013 but hearing so many musical influences all in one evening of performance is a rare treat.<\/p>\n

Enter\u00a05x JUNO (Canada\u2019s Grammy) nominee\/7x Canadian Folk Music Award winner Andrew Collins. On\u00a0Saturday, Feb 17, at\u00a08 p.m., this mandolin marvel will be joined by string master Mike Mezzatesta, and in-the-pocket bassist James McEleney who also holds it down on harmony vocals.<\/p>\n

The number of genres the group nails is matched only by the dizzying number of instruments on stage. As Andrew notes, \u201cWe overcompensate being a small band by playing a lot of instruments.\u201d That\u2019s putting it lightly. Audiences will hear a seamless swap of mandolin, violin, guitar, bass, and the less commonly used mandocello and mandola, alongside great singing, banter and jokes. Andrew adds, \u201c we play at least one Roger Miller song a night, some jazz, classical music, a bunch of original songs, traditional bluegrass, celtic music, and a little bit of honky tonk, some swing music \u2013 we really like to keep things hopping.\u201d<\/p>\n

As to all the awards, nominations, and the strong connection with his followers, Collins notes \u201cwe\u2019re so grateful it resonates with our fans and award juries. We work really hard at music but it\u2019s also just about pure joy\u2014I think that\u2019s what folks pick up on \u2013 not just in our recordings but our live shows.\u201d<\/p>\n
