On Wednesday February 28th at 6:30 pm, the Sherrill-Kenwood Public Library will host John Taibi who will present “A Soldier’s Journey through the Heart of the Park.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>John will tell the story of a returning WWII POW reunited with his wife, both of whom are sent to Lake Placid by the US Army, by train, so that normalcy can be regained. The story is that of Taibi\u2019s father, a true love story just in time for Valentine’s Day.\u00a0 There is no charge for this event.\u00a0 For more information please call\u00a0315-363-5980<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Saturday March 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0at 12:30 pm the Smithfield Community Center will host Gerrit Smith\u2019s 221st<\/sup>\u00a0Birthday Celebration.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Come and learn the history of one of New York\u2019s most influential Abolitionists.\u00a0 Gerrit Smith Biographer Norman Dann will be launching his new book\u00a0Peter Smith of Peterboro, Furs, Land and Anguish\u00a0<\/em>on Gerrit\u2019s father Peter.\u00a0 Following the talk copies of the book will be available for purchase and Dann will be signing copies.\u00a0 There is no charge for this event.\u00a0 For more information please email\u00a0info@gerritsmith.org<\/a>\u00a0or call\u00a0315-280-8828.<\/a><\/p>\n

On Sunday March 11th<\/sup>\u00a0at 2:00 pm the Oneida Community Mansion House will host a special screening of a \u201cCarol Cook: A Documentary.\u201d<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Cook was one of three women in the New York State Assembly in the 1960\u2019s and 1970\u2019s.\u00a0 She led extraordinary efforts to crate change within a male dominated government.\u00a0 As a republican assemblywoman she fought for equality and women\u2019s rights.\u00a0 She authored legislation in 1970 that decriminalized abortion in New York State, which paved the way for Roe vs. Wade.\u00a0\u00a0The event is free for members and $7 for non-members (students aged 10-18 are $3).\u00a0 F more information please call\u00a0315-363-0745<\/a>\u00a0or visit\u00a0www.oneidacommunity.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Saturday March 17th<\/sup>\u00a0at 2:00 pm the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will draw the winner of its Saint Patrick\u2019s Day Giveaway.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Tickets are $50 and only 200 tickets will be sold.\u00a0 The winner does not have to be present, they will be contacted by the museum.\u00a0 Tickets can be purchased at the museum or you can visit\u00a0www.chittenangolanding.com<\/a>for more information.<\/p>\n

On Saturday March 17th<\/sup>\u00a0from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm the Oneida County History Center will host its 3rd<\/sup>\u00a0annual Irish Tea.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 Come and enjoy a three course tea complete with finger foods, desserts, door prizes and more.\u00a0 Entertainment will include a presentation by Bob Sullivan on John F. On Sunday March 18th<\/sup>\u00a0from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm the Madison County Historical Society will sponsor a Heritage Handcraft Leisure Arts Workshop on \u201cUkrainian Pysanka Egg Decoration\u201d at the First United Methodist Church in Oneida.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Teacher Linda Evans taught art at local school districts and has taught Ukrainian egg decorating for more than 18 years.\u00a0 The workshop is for adults aged 13 and up.\u00a0 All materials will be provided.\u00a0 Registration is $25 and required prior to the event (The workshop is limited to 20 participants).\u00a0 This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program a recent program of the New York State Council on the Arts.\u00a0 For more information please call315-363-4136<\/a>\u00a0or visit\u00a0www.mchs1900.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On Thursday March 22nd<\/sup>\u00a0at 7:00 pm the Canastota Canal Town Museum presents \u201cWomen in Action\u201d at the Canastota Public Library.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>Joe DiGiorgio and Liz Metzger will offer biographical sketches of local women Pearl Bush, Pamela Balducci and Alison Kingsbury along with national figures Mary Potts, Hedy Lamarr and Amelia Earhart, who will be role played by Metzger.\u00a0 All of these women have influenced our way of living and have connections to our local area.\u00a0 There is no charge for this event.\u00a0 For more information please call\u00a0315-697-7030<\/a>.<\/p>\n
