On Monday, April 2,\u00a0at 7 p.m. the Fabius Historical Society will host a special presentation by Skaneateles resident Ron Beavers at the Fabius Community Center. Beavers will talk about the railroad industry during the 19thcentury. There is no charge for this event. Refreshments will be served following the program. On Saturday, April 7,\u00a0from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Madison County Historical Society will host a special program by local author Norman K. Dann. Dann will talk about his new book\u00a0Peter Smith of Peterboro: Furs, Land and Anguish. Dann has written six books on the descendants of Peter Smith but this is his first book on Peter. On Wednesday, April 11,\u00a0from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host their monthly \u201cCoffee with Friends.\u201d New and current volunteers and community members are encouraged to come in, reconnect and learn about opportunities available at the museum. On Thursday, April 12,\u00a0at 6 p.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host \u201cPaint Time with Lisa.\u201dLocal artist Lisa Billington will give you step by step directions to create the feature painting. At the end of the class you will have your own masterpiece and be amazed that you created it. Attendees must be 21 or older and bring a beverage of their choice. On Friday, April 13,\u00a0at 6:30 p.m. the Morrisville Public Library welcomes Morrisville Village Historian Sue Greenhagen who will present on new items she has collected. On Sunday, April 15,\u00a0at 1 p.m. the Oneida Community Mansion House continues its \u201cBeyond Belief: Religion in American Life\u201d series by welcoming Lynne Barnes, a former member of the Kerista Community to speak about living in a communal setting. The Kerista Community was located in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco. Barnes will talk about her experiences living in the community and whether a Utopian Community can succeed. On Thursday, April 19,\u00a0at 7 p.m. the Town of Marshall Historical Society will host a special presentation on Writing Your Own History. On Saturday, April 21,\u00a0from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. the Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will host their 13thannual Canal Clean Sweep. Help the museum prepare for the new visitor and educations season by doing a variety of clean-up projects inside the buildings and on the grounds. If you cannot attend you can always donate supplies: Brooms, dustpans, shop-vacs, dust cloths, Windex, Mr. Clean, etc.. On Thursday, April 26,\u00a0from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Madison County Historical Society will present a Leisure Art Festival for youth at the Kallet Civic Center in Oneida. The event is free and open to the public and will feature special presentations by \u201cBells and Motley,\u201d the Punch and Judy Puppet Show and a cut paper silhouette workshop with Pamela Vogan Lynch.<\/p>\n

On Saturday April 28, at the Oneida Community Mansion House will host a special Arbor Day event. Come and learn about the 30 plus varieties of trees planted at the Oneida Community mansion House. On Sunday, April 29,\u00a0at 1 p.m. the Oneida Community Mansion House welcomes author Michael Doyle who will present on his new book \u201cThe Ministers\u2019 of War: John W. Mears, the Oneida Community and the Crusade for Public Morality.\u201d The book, published by Syracuse University Press, is a riveting account of Presbyterian Minister John W. Mears crusade against the Oneida Community. Following the presentation there will be a reception and book signing. There is no charge for this event. On Tuesday, May 1,\u00a0at 3:30 p.m. the Hamilton Public Library will host a special presentation by Art Zimmer on \u201cDowntown Hamilton Businesses, 1950-1960.\u201d Zimmer will lead attendees on a trip down memory lane with a few surprises thrown in showcasing what industry was there then and ones that still exist now. On Saturday, May 5,\u00a0from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. the Madison County Historical Society will sponsor a Heritage Handcraft Leisure Arts Workshop on \u201cthe Art of Theorem Painting.\u201d The workshop is for adults aged 13 and up. All materials will be provided. Registration is $30 and required prior to the event (The workshop is limited to 20 participants). This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program a recent program of the New York State Council on the Arts. On Tuesday, May 29, at 6:30 p.m. the Canastota Public Library will host a special interview with WWII Veteran Boyd Paquin. Paquin was a bombardier in the Eight Air Force 2490th\u00a0Bomber Group, 851st\u00a0Squardron. He flew 10 missions in a B-24 before flying 20 missions in a B-17. He completed his 30th\u00a0mission in late 1944 and then was transferred to Texas to train Brazilian cadets. He returned home, attended Colgate University and then taught in local school districts until 1967. There is no charge for this event. For more information, call\u00a0315-366-2453<\/a>.<\/p>\n
