{"id":95344,"date":"2018-06-22T12:36:36","date_gmt":"2018-06-22T16:36:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=95344"},"modified":"2018-06-22T10:24:14","modified_gmt":"2018-06-22T14:24:14","slug":"horned-dorset-artist-colony-to-hold-open-studios-this-monday-june-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=95344","title":{"rendered":"Horned Dorset artist colony to hold open studios this Monday, June 25"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-95345\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Michael_June-2018_0280-300x199.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" srcset=\"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Michael_June-2018_0280-300x199.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Michael_June-2018_0280-150x100.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Michael_June-2018_0280-400x266.jpeg 400w, https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Michael_June-2018_0280.jpeg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Horned Dorset artist colony to hold open studios this Monday, June 25<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>An open studio offering the public an opportunity to meet the June artists in residence at The Horned Dorset Colony here will be held this Monday, June 25, from\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1532613781\"><span class=\"aQJ\">4:30 to 6 p.m.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0at Creekside Studio on Hillside Avenue.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The non-profit colony, now in its seventh year, offers four-week summer residencies to emerging and professional artists in the fields of creative writing, literary translation, musical composition, and visual arts.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The program is affiliated with The Horned Dorset Inn, which holds monthly dinner concerts featuring musicians from throughout Central New York and beyond to benefit the program\u2019s scholarship fund.\u00a0 For more information about the colony, visit\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.horneddorsetcolony.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=http:\/\/www.horneddorsetcolony.org&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1529763484801000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHZF2QlRFMoi6CtzEzGDMPiaCE1Cg\">www.horneddorsetcolony.org<\/a>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The featured artists for June are:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Michael Brodeur, visual artist,<\/b>\u00a0Greenville, S.C.<\/div>\n<div>For the last fifteen years, Michael has taught painting and drawing at Furman University in Greenville.\u00a0 \u201cUp to now the majority of my work has revolved around still life.\u00a0 My recent health experience centered my focus on rejuvenation and communion with the natural world.\u00a0 Leonardsville\u2019s pastoral setting reminds me of the hills, low mountains, greenery, and terrain of my childhood in New Hampshire\u2019s Connecticut River Valley.\u00a0 Leonardsville is an ideal place for me to cultivate my rediscovered enthusiasm to depict the organic forms and growth of nature.\u201d<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Ethan Cypress, composer,\u00a0<\/b>Oneonta<\/div>\n<div>Ethan is not a stranger to the Horned Dorset Colony.\u00a0 He performed a\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1532613782\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Sunday<\/span><\/span>, July 2017 dinner concert at the Horned Dorset Inn and has also played with Rich Mollin and Carleton Clay there\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1532613783\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Friday\u00a0 <\/span><\/span>evenings.\u00a0 He is an alumnus of the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam, the Hartt School of Music at the University of Hartford, and the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.\u00a0 He has completed his first year of graduate studies at Eastman, where he is a graduate assistant.\u00a0 Ethan is adept in classical and jazz styles, as well as composition and arranging music.\u00a0 He performs on a variety of instruments including trombone, piano, bass, violin, trumpet, and a unique instrument called the flugel-bone.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Azita Moradkhani, visual artist,\u00a0<\/b>Boston, Mass.<\/div>\n<div>Azita was born in Tehran, Iran, where she was exposed to Persian art and culture as well as Iranian politics.\u00a0 That double exposure increased her sensitivity to the dynamics of vulnerability and violence that she explores in her work.\u00a0 She received her bachelor\u2019s in fine arts from Tehran University of Art, and her MA in Art Education and MFA in drawing, painting &amp; sculpture from Boston\u2019s School of the Museum of Fine Arts &amp; Tufts University.\u00a0 She has been teaching and exhibiting in the nine-month MWPAI Artist in Residency program during the 2017-18 school year.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Rui Co\u00edas, poet,\u00a0<\/b>Lisbon, Portugal<\/div>\n<div>Born and raised in Lisbon, Rui studied law at the University of Coimbra.\u00a0 He then returned to Lisbon to work as a lawyer for nine years.\u00a0 Rui\u2019s poetry appeared in 2000, \u201ca powerful and dense world, where real elements seem to float on a desolate landscape of silences and distances.\u201d\u00a0 His first books,\u00a0<i>A Fun\u00e7\u00e3o do Ge\u00f3grafo<\/i>\u00a0(2000) and\u00a0<i>A Ordem do Mundo<\/i>\u00a0(2005), show his concern for landscape, referring to the area around Coimbra.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Horned Dorset artist colony to hold open studios this Monday, June 25 An open studio offering the public an opportunity to meet the June artists in residence at The Horned Dorset Colony here will be held this Monday, June 25, from\u00a04:30 to 6 p.m.\u00a0at Creekside Studio on Hillside Avenue.
