Statement by New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood on Second Circuit opinion blocking Trump Administration\u2019s delay of fuel efficiency standards penalty rule<\/strong><\/p>\n

New York Attorney General Barbara D. Underwood released the following statement, following\u00a0today\u2019s opinion<\/a>\u00a0from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit that affirms the\u00a0court order<\/a>\u00a0secured by the Attorney General\u2019s office earlier this year. That order blocked the Trump administration\u2019s delay of the fuel efficiency standards penalty rule.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s opinion is a strong rebuke of the Trump administration\u2019s efforts to flout our environmental laws, marking another key win in our fight to protect New Yorkers\u2019 health and environment.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThis rule is common sense, incentivizing automakers to comply with critical fuel efficiency standards that protect consumers\u2019 wallets while reducing carbon emissions and toxic pollutants.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAs we\u2019ve demonstrated, when the Trump administration breaks the law and puts special interests before the people they serve, we\u2019ll take them to court \u2013 and we\u2019ll win.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In September 2017, the New York and California Attorneys General led a coalition of five Attorneys General (New York, California, Vermont, Maryland and Pennsylvania) that\u00a0filed suit<\/a>\u00a0to block the Trump administration\u2019s delay of the penalty rule. The rule updates penalties assessed to automakers for noncompliance with federal fuel efficiency standards, encouraging automakers to achieve CAFE Standards \u2013 which would reduce carbon emissions by 1.8 billion metric tons and save each consumer $1,650.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
