{"id":96377,"date":"2018-08-21T12:35:59","date_gmt":"2018-08-21T16:35:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=96377"},"modified":"2018-08-21T11:37:07","modified_gmt":"2018-08-21T15:37:07","slug":"playing-fair-fair-housing-landlord-training-workshop-aug-24","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/?p=96377","title":{"rendered":"ICYMI: Playing Fair: Fair housing landlord training workshop Aug. 24"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-96378\" src=\"http:\/\/madisoncountycourier.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/municipal-housing.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"218\" height=\"145\" \/>ICYMI: Playing Fair: Fair housing l<\/strong><strong>andlord training w<\/strong><strong>orkshop Aug. 24<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CNY Fair Housing, a 27-year-old local non-profit organization working to eliminate housing discrimination in Central and Northern New York, is conducting two \u201cPlaying Fair:\u00a0 Fair Housing Landlord Training\u201d workshop sessions\u00a0Friday, Aug. 24, 2018, at the\u00a0Chancellor Apartments, Community Room,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/maps.google.com\/?q=417+Bleecker+Street,+Utica&amp;entry=gmail&amp;source=g\">417 Bleecker St., Utica<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The workshops will cover Fair Housing laws and responsibilities, and will be targeted to area landlords, property managers, realtors, housing developers, housing authorities, and anyone doing business in the housing industry. The first workshop will be held from\u00a09 to 11 a.m., and the second workshop will take place from\u00a01 to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>People need to attend only one of the two workshops. The event is co-sponsored by the Utica Municipal Housing Authority and the City of Utica, and the workshops are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.<\/p>\n<p>The trainings will review current fair housing laws as well as provide updates on reasonable <!--more-->accommodations, harassment, illegal behavior, and Disparate Impact. Municipalities and public housing authorities are obligated to actively work to affirmatively further fair housing or potentially lose federal funding.<\/p>\n<p>Private and non-profit housing providers, landlords, and others in the housing industry can also protect themselves from increasingly larger settlements and court actions by knowing and understanding their fair housing responsibilities.<\/p>\n<p>Certificates of completion will be presented to those who attend the workshops.<\/p>\n<p>To sign up for the free Fair Housing training or request more information, people can email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:info@cnyfairhousing.org\">info@cnyfairhousing.org<\/a>\u00a0or call the Utica Municipal Housing Authority at (315) 735-5246.
