Friends of Rogers is launching two new recurring programs at Rogers Environmental Education Center in\u00a0Sherburne. Explore a specific topic with an experienced expert in a casual atmosphere during \u2018Learning\u00a0Lectures,\u2019 to be held the first Wednesday of each month.<\/p>\n

On the second Thursday of each month, get outside\u00a0for a fun educational adventure with \u2018EdVentures.\u2019<\/p>\n

For the month of September, both \u2018Learning Lectures\u2019 and\u00a0\u2018EdVentures\u2019 explore the fine arts of nature.<\/p>\n

On Sept. 5, \u201cPaint By Nature\u201d launches the first \u2018Learning Lecture.\u2019 Participants will paint \u2018en pleine air,\u2019\u00a0learning how to capture a beautiful Rogers Center vista on canvas. Jill Kraft, from \u2018The Artists\u2019 Palette,\u2019\u00a0provides instruction in recreating this tranquil scene.<\/p>\n

While the paint dries, Marissa Nolan, Senior\u00a0Environmental Education, presents a short program about waterlilies and their role in the ecosystems they\u00a0inhabit. Everyone will come away with a masterpiece of their own creation! Registration fee is $10 per\u00a0member and $12 for not-yet-members, which includes a canvas panel and all painting supplies.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cFeathered Seranaders\u201d is the topic for the first \u2018EdVenture\u2019 Sept. 13. Birds use song to communicate a variety of things. John Pumilio, Colgate University\u2019s Director of Sustainability, explains the music of Rogers Center\u2019s best vocalists. Enjoy light refreshments while learning how to recognize a\u00a0bird by its unique melody and what it is trying to say.<\/p>\n

Individual registration is $4 per member and $5 for not-yet-members and family registration is $10 for those who are Friends of Rogers members and\u00a0$12 for those who are not-yet-members.<\/p>\n

\u2018Learning Lectures\u2019 and \u2018EdVentures\u2019 are recommended for ages 13 and up. Sessions begin at 6:30 pm and are\u00a0held in the Visitor Center, just off state Route 80 in Sherburne. Paid pre-registration is required by noon the\u00a0day prior; call (607) 674-4733, or email sr.educator@FriendsofRogers.org for more details.<\/p>\n

Rogers Center is operated by Friends of Rogers Environmental Education Center, Inc., a nonprofit organization that offers educational programs for people of all ages.
