New Farmers grant program in fifth year<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Empire State Development and the state Department of Agriculture\u00a0and Markets have announced $1 million in funding is available to assist early-stage farmers through the\u00a0state New Farmers Grant Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The program, now in its fifth year, promotes growth and development in the state’s agriculture industry. To date,\u00a0$3.27 million has been awarded\u00a0to nearly 90 farms throughout New York state\u00a0to expand operations and improve profitability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The $1 million New Farmers Grant Fund will provide grants of\u00a0up to $50,000\u00a0to assist with up to 50 percent of eligible project costs. To qualify, all farm business owners must be\u00a0within the first 10 years of having an ownership interest\u00a0in any farm business, and the farm must have a\u00a0minimum of $10,000 in income\u00a0from sales of products grown or raised on the farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eligible project costs include the purchase of\nmachinery, equipment, supplies and the construction or improvement of\nagricultural structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deadline for grant application submissions is Jan.\n25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
