On Feb. 19, 2019, at approximately 1:15 p.m., state police\nin Sylvan Beach were dispatched to a State Route 49 residence in Vienna\nregarding a domestic dispute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When troopers arrived, they observed a male running from the\nresidence and were able to take him into custody while the investigation\nensued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investigation had revealed that Shad Hinman, 45, of\nVienna, and his girlfriend had been involved in an argument over his growing\nmarijuana plants inside of their residence. The girlfriend stated that Hinman\nattempted to destroy the plants prior to the state police arrival by tearing\nthem out of their pots and burning them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troopers on scene observed marijuana plants burning in the\nfireplace and some plants still intact within the residence; the fireplace had\nmalfunctioned, causing the home to fill with smoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Bay Fire Department responded to the scene and\nextinguished the burning marijuana plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troopers also observed a loaded hunting rifle hanging on the\nwall of the residence, which Hinman was not permitted to possess due to his\nprior serious offense convictions and an active order of protection prohibiting\nhim from possessing firearms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troopers were also able to determine that Hinman had not\nnotified authorities regarding his change of address, as required by the sex\noffender registry program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The home was condemned by the Vienna Codes Department, due\nto numerous codes violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hinman was charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of\na weapon (class A misdemeanor), second-degree criminal contempt (class A\nmisdemeanor), unlawful growing of cannabis (Public Health Law, class A\nmisdemeanor) and sex offender failing to report an address change (class E\nfelony).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hinman was brought to the Oneida County Jail for Centralized\nArraignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

State police were assisted on scene by the Oneida County\nSheriff\u2019s Office, North Bay Fire Department and town of Vienna Codes\nDepartment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
