Oneida-based state police charged a Baldwinsville man with driving while ability impaired by drugs following a two-car personal injury crash in Lenox Thursday evening.

At approximately 8:45 p.m. March 23, troopers were dispatched by Madison County 911 to a two-car crash at the intersection of State Route 31 and State Route 13 in Lenox. The accident investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Jesse N. Marion, 35, of Baldwinsville, was eastbound on Route 31 approaching the intersection of Route 13 when it failed to stop for a red light at the intersection.

The Marion vehicle struck a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound on Route 13 operated by Elizabeth M. Scott, 26, of Blossvale. Scott was transported to SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse by Greater Lenox Ambulance Service for treatment of a head injury.

Marion and a 44-year-old male passenger were transported by Vineall Ambulance to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Utica for evaluation. Two smoking pipes discovered in the Marion vehicle contained drug residue tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.

A state police drug recognition expert responded to evaluate Marion, and he was found to be impaired by drugs. A DMV check revealed Marion’s driver’s license status was suspended. Marion was processed at the Oneida state police barracks and arraigned in Lenox Town Court on the charges of DWAI-drugs, first-degree felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for a red light and other traffic charges, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Marion was remanded to the Madison County Jail on bail to reappear in Lenox Town Court at a later date.

State police were assisted at the scene by members of the Canastota Fire Department and Oneida Nation Police Department.
