On April 21, 2019, at 5:30 p.m., state police responded to State Route 5 in the town of Little Falls for a report of a female driver needing assistance and parked along the shoulder of the roadway.

As troopers arrived, they observed a 2001 Acura MDX parked along the north shoulder with the driver’s side door open and a woman sitting in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. During an interview, the driver stated she was having shoulder pain.

Little Falls EMS arrived and offered medical assistance, which she declined.

As troopers continued their interview, they observed a metal knuckle knife inside the driver’s side door and advised the driver she was under arrest for unlawful possession of a weapon. The driver then became uncooperative and refused to move. Following several direct orders to exit the vehicle, the driver complied and was taken into custody without incident.

Marla A. Groves, 55, of Rotterdam, was charged with aggravated DWI (reportable BAC of .25 percent), fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle on a highway.

Groves was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in Little Falls Town Court at 5 p.m. May 20, 2019.
