Assemblyman John Salka (R,C,Ref-Brookfield) said he has concerns with the governor’s plan to redesign the state’s license plates. All New York residents are allowed to cast a vote to choose which of the new plates becomes the official choice for the state: one of the options is the newly named Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.
“I can’t help but have a sense of irony about this proposal,” Salka said. “There was a decided push to give undocumented immigrants driver’s licenses this past session, but now the governor won’t allow them to vote for the plates on their cars. You have to be a resident to vote on the plates but not a resident to use one? It seems like it’s simply a money grab for the governor’s war chest because you have to pay for the replacement.”
Salka represents the 121st Assembly District, encompassing all of Madison County and portions of Oneida and Otsego counties.
The plate is fine…FIX the roads with the money !
I think it’s for the money. They do this all the time. Change licenses and it costs more money. Change plates it costs more money change registration plus add a road use tax and it costs more money. They are slowly ripping us off
