(Chittenango, NY – Sept. 2014) At 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 21, the Sullivan Free Library, 101 Falls Blvd., Chittenango, will host a program: Celebrating Local Agriculture: 7 Trees Dairy Goat Farm.

Marva Hogan, co-owner of the farm on Perryville Road in Canastota, will speak about the challenges of running a dairy goat farm and the cheese-making business. She will bring samples of the cheeses they produce and market at local venues.

This program is suitable for all ages. There will be a craft activity for children at the end of the talk.

This program is part of the Grassroots Read, sponsored by the Mid-York Library System.

The goal is to bring the community together though reading, learning and discussion of a single topic. This year’s topic combines the traditional and the trendy by exploring the vibrant agricultural community that has long formed a vital part of the economy in the Mid-York service area of Madison, Oneida and Herkimer counties, and the newer phenomenon of the “localvore,” an individual who endeavors to eat more food that is produced locally.
