(Sherburne, NY – Dec. 2014)  For the second year in a row, Save the Sherburne Inn Restoration Project, Inc. (SSIRP) has been awarded a $500,000 economic development grant through the NYS Department of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation.

SSIRP President Kathleen Yasas said, “This definitely puts us on the map.  New York State has now committed to investing $1 million in this restoration project.  Our vision for reopening the Inn will have a huge impact on the village and town of Sherburne, Chenango County, and New York State.”

Of the 91 Southern Tier projects funded in this round of grants, seven are in Chenango County:  3 in the City of Norwich ($904,000); 2 in the Village of Afton ($34,925); 1 in the Village of Green ($50,000); and 1 in the Village of Sherburne for SSIRP ($500,000).  Total state grant funding for Chenango County projects amounts to $1,488,925.  The complete list of awards throughout the State can be found here:  http://www.scribd.com/doc/249907748/NYS-2014-Regional-Economic-Development-Council-Awards#force_seo.

The 2014 grant will cover the costs to repair exterior decks, steps, and tavern entrance; a new handicapped ramp on the east side of the building; kitchen repairs and build-out; dining room, lobby, and enclosed dining porch restoration; a new entry on the west side of the building; exterior electrical and lighting; and mechanical feeds to the upper floors for future build-out.  The grant also includes funds for architect’s fees.

Once the restoration is completed, the refurbished Sherburne Inn will offer hotel rooms, event and conference space, a fine-dining farm-to-table restaurant and bar that source from local farmers and producers, a downstairs tavern with live music space, and retail space for a salon, bakery, coffee shop, and gift shop.  The grand opening target date is June 2017, which will mark the 100th anniversary of the Sherburne Inn.
