GSC logo high res(Town of Lenox, NY – April 2015) Join Biologist Andy Weil of the Ruffed Grouse Society for an evening walk in search of the Woodcock April 12 7 p.m. at the Great Swamp Conservancy of Canastota. Start off with a power point about this allusive bird and its unique mating displays. The Great Swamp has the perfect habitat of wet thickets, moist woods and brushy swamps.

Also known as the “Timber Doddle” is a rotund, almost neckless brown bird with a dead leaf pattern. It is about the size of the Bobwhite Quail with an extremely long bill and large pop eyes.

The public is invited to learn about this nocturnal and secretive, seldom seen bird. The males give an elaborate flight display.

No registration or fee for the program but donations are welcomed.
