(July 11, 2015) Representative Richard Hanna recently announced fire grants for eight local departments that will help first responders and Emergency Medical Services organizations have the tools necessary to do their work and keep the public safe.

The following departments in New York’s 22nd Congressional District each received a grant for Fiscal Year 2014 through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG): Lisle Fire Company (Broome County); McGraw Fire Department (Cortland County); Georgetown Firemen’s Association(Madison County); Hamilton Fire Department (Madison County); Deerfield Volunteer Fire Department (Oneida County); Lake Delta Volunteer Fire Department (Oneida County); Trenton Joint Fire District (Oneida County); New Haven Volunteer Fire Corporation (Oswego County).

The primary goal of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is to meet the firefighting and emergency response needs of fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations.

Since 2001, AFG has helped firefighters and other first responders to obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training and other resources needed to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.

The program is administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
