MCCPaperLogoLearn about the Success of Different Bedding Types in a Composted Bedded Pack Barn

New Moon Farms will discuss the results of their Farmer Grant from NE SARE on July 30 at 1:30 p.m.

New Moon Farms is located at 5533 Stockbridge Falls Road, Munnsville.

For their NE SARE Farmer Grant, Chris and Sarah Ficken experimented with three different types of bedding (peanut hulls, peanut hulls mixed with woodchips, and Clean Cow Dairy Bedding) in their composted bedded pack barn with an eye to bedding cost per cow per day, herd health, nutrient management, cow comfort, and ease of maintenance.

Kiln dried sawdust was used as the control.

Jim Lauro from Casella Organics will be joining us to talk about the Clean Cow Dairy Bedding.

Lunch will be available to purchase from the Young Riders 4-H club and there will be fun activities throughout the day in celebration of Madison County Open Farm Day.

RSVP to Sarah Ficken at newmoondairyfarms@gmail.com or just show up!
